“As a victim of bullying, I often struggled with the idea of fitting into society. However, this changed when I discovered the sport of fencing. It became a source of confidence and structure. Each practice gave me something to look forward to because I could create clear goals to work towards. Just as meaningful as the sport itself was the community I found within it. I was surrounded by teenagers driven by the same desire to improve. We are all able to support one another in our small community. Fencing taught me discipline, resilience, and the value of surrounding myself with people who uplift and motivate me, and I hope to share it with others who have struggled in the past as well.”

“After seeing the effects of the pandemic on teenagers’ mental health, I came to understand the importance of social interaction and physical activity for emotional well-being. Activities like group sports and outdoor exercise not only release endorphins, but also improve cognitive function and resilience. I feel incredibly privileged to have access to a safe environment where I can strengthen both my mind and body. This experience has inspired me to give back and create spaces where the youth can develop the same tools for mental and physical health. Whether through mentorship, coaching, or advocacy, I hope to share the benefits I’ve received and help others build stronger foundations for a healthier, more connected future.”
